Dutch Queen Beatrix to abdicate
On April 30, 2013 Queen Beatrix of The Netherlands will transfer her crown to her son Prince Willem-Alexander.
Queen Beatrix announced her resignation on monday at 19 o'clock in a speech broadcasted on national radio and television.
In her speech she said 'I think this is a good time to take this step, which I consider already for a few years to take. The time is right for a new generation'. She also stated that the abdication is not a goodbye to the Dutch people that she hopes to meet often in the near future'.
The 31st of January Queen Beatrix celebrates its 75th anniversary.
