Open Letter to a Business
You will see an advertising/promotional letter sent to customers by a business in my area. I removed some of the information out of politeness.
I felt compelled to reply to them in this open letter, because this kind of advertising and promotion is happening here regularly.
I want those who come up with these ideas to understand that everyone does not welcome this negativeness, We are all free to say anything, but best is to say it in a responsible way.
Please read my open letter below and also take a look at the front and the back of their letter. I made little notes there to accentuate the points I wanted to make.
In a letter dated simply January 2013 sent to “Customers and Friends” you are trying to drum up business with various offers.
While you make some points, I find your approach to blaming “Uncle Sam” (EPA) very disturbing and very unfair.
To the untrained and naïve, this provokes anger, of course, with the buzz word “mandated”, in bold, mind you. Blood boils! Another mandate shoved down our throat…Government intrusion, mind you, but this one is the result of the Montreal Protocol, a treaty from 1987. Oopsy, who was president then? Ronald W. Reagan. Conveniently, as much of the Extreme Right has been doing, that little detail was shoved under the rug of time. Some may jump to the conclusion that Mr. Obama is to be blamed.
Then again, that Montreal Protocol was a necessary and positive step to protect our environment. A search will yield you ample information. If the prices fluctuate as a result, that should be the cost of doing business. Passing the cost to your customers might just price you out of business. The following is the introduction of the letter you sent out and I am quoting it.
“Uncle Sam (aka EPA) did it again; we just received confirmation that they notified the manufacturers of Refrigerant on January 7 of a mandated Reduction of r-22 Refrigerant in 2013.”
Later you go on to credit Congress on the aversion of the government falling off the “Fiscal Cliff” resulting in the reinstatement of the “25C Tax Credit”. (Absolutely no mention of the President's role.) I guess this is mostly to generate interest in your special offer that follows.
In closing, you say: “We have one goal in making this offer: Keep our people working!...”Noble indeed, just not too believable, after all, you are in business for a profit.
In closing, I want you to know that this advertising and promotional letter could have been much more positive and achieve even better results. If you want more business, you do need those of us who embrace progressive values as well as your conservative and TEA Party-leaning customers. Actually you may not realize it, but we nearly turned Arizona Blue. I, for one, will never again do business with you, please remove me from your mailing list and call list.
