This iReport is part of an assignment:
Naturalized citizens: Your thoughts on immigration reform |
I (may) need you!
Legal Immigrants: To sustain a country you need law abiding citizens. All Legal Immigrants are law abiding and go through toughest visa scrutiny to enter legally in USA so they should be the first to enjoy the fruit of immigration reform. I am not an immigration expert but I feel that Green Card process can be reformed multifold. In my humble opinion:
Country cap on Green Card should be removed. Green Card allocation should be decided on first come first serve basis.
A US citizen can sponsor Green Card only for her immediate family (parents, spouse and children).
Major percentage of Green Card should go to Aliens on Employment Visa and Green Card process should not be incumbent on employer at all.
Legal Aliens on immigration based visa should get Green Card in a period decided by law makers irrespective of category they are in.
Illegal immigrants: Person who broke the law should get punished. In my opinion whoever has crossed the border illegally should be deported but anyone who is born on US soil should be given a chance to get legal status.
