STARTING THE NEW YEAR OFF RIGHT BY GIVING BACK TO THE COMMUNITY—PROVIDING COMFORT TO KIDS IN NEED
“I think it is wonderful. We enjoy making them, and we know they will be appreciated by the kids,” said Blackman. “The kids will see that people are thinking of them and have not forgotten them. We are doing this with love for the kids. I think it is a great idea to do more community service projects this year.”
The blankets are all being made with bright, cheerful colors. The group hopes to
donate three dozen blankets next month to Hiway 80 Rescue Mission-Hope Haven Home for Women and Children. Many of the children come in with few belongings and little more than the clothes on their backs.
“It warms our hearts to help children in our community. I am so encouraged by the outpouring of generosity from residents in their 70s, 80s and 90s,” said Wes Wells, executive director of Buckner Westminster Place. “I am excited to see what we can accomplish this year. We did some great community service projects last year, and we want to do even more in 2013.”
