Gun control debate: Background checks |
May be it is Time for our Government to Stop Distracting Us from Real Issues Facing our Nation...
Law abiding Citizens have right to Bear Arms and should be able to use them to defend against Gun violence and other major Crimes. Even though, criminals may be scared to die but they are coward enough to shoot and kill to steal and commit crimes. We as American must unite and have every right to fight against gangs and major crime syndicates. We may act as reserve police force alongside of the law enforcement forces.
There is very little chance for criminals or others to attempt any type of crime if they suspect to be shot to death on the scene of crime. We should not be afraid of the criminals instead they should fear us. Real problem facing our society is imbalance of wealth, political power and law enforcement. Legal gun ownership should not be even an issue; I would suggest better safeguarding, screening, accountability and registration of the weapons which may help to reduce the chance of any weapon getting into the wrong hands in the first place. There ought to be heavy fines and penalties for the irresponsible gun owners, illegal gun acquisitions, improper safeguarding and avoiding registration.
Regardless of the restrictions, criminals will be able to acquire illegal, smuggled assault weapons or even homemade guns and any size of law enforcement agency will not be able to stop it. Improving respond time by well-trained police officers, cooperation from the communities and responsible citizens bearing legal fire arms, may be some of the deterrents to gun violence and major crimes.
Major cities like Chicago and New York have effective, well-funded and trained law enforcement divisions vs. small towns, municipalities and villages are ill equipped and their version of police enforcement is limited to traffic ticketing and guarding. Small communities and even some of the counties do not have the proper funding to afford the sophisticated law enforcement divisions like City of Chicago, New York and other major cities.
My be it is time to look into consolidating the law enforcement agencies at cities and counties levels instead of each small community having their own guards so called police. Also, consolidating every level of communications and data among all law enforcement agencies will be great help to rapid respond and solve crimes.
In case of City of Chicago, most of the crimes and gun violence take place in certain neighborhoods, especially in the Southside and or in the government subsidizing housing. Majority of time, during and after the crimes, people are afraid to call police and expose themselves because of negative repercussionsfrom their friends, neighbors, relatives who may know or related to these criminals. In order to reduce crimes and gun violence, law enforcement and citizens must work together to share all relevant information. Also, providing some kind of safety net to whom willing to cooperate and provide valuable information to help apprehension of criminals.
Off course, poverty, poorly funded schools, unemployment, unaffordable medical treatments, housing problems, drugs and inadequate transportation system may be some of the other major problems and challenges facing the underserved communities which contribute to high crimes and gun violence on a daily basis.
May be it is time for our government to stop distracting us from real issues by misdirecting the blame on the legal gun owners instead helping poor, underserved and mentally ill people to become financially independent and responsible participative citizens at all level of society. In the long run it will help to reduce gang violence and all other types of crimes.
Also, government’s subsidizing housing projects are major contributing factors to never ending poverty, violence and struggle to independence. May be instead, vouchers should be issued, so, residents can have a choice to live in the diversified neighborhoods and kids may be able to attend better schools and mentors.
Being independent law abiding citizens and not being dependent is the key to bright future for our nation.
Regardless of North side, Southside, Westside or Eastside neighborhoods, Chicago police force is highly trained and responds in a record time to any incident of gun violence or any other major crime. Unfortunately, police is only effective if the community is willing to cooperate and provide any possible leads to the law enforcement personals. Un-cooperation of the citizens in high crime area is one of the major disadvantages to salve crimes and capture offenders.
Other part of the neighborhoods where crimes and gun violence are low due to active citizen’s involvement, whenever crime occurs and majority of citizens are quick to call the police, willing to cooperate and help them any way possible. Also, some of the citizens whom own fire arms may be willing to use them in defense.
In conclusion, Guns in the wrong hands are major problem and real debate should be on how to keep guns away from criminals, irresponsible gun owners and denying access to anyone who is mentally incapable to handle any type of fire arms.
May be it is time for our government to stop distracting us from real issues facing our nation by misdirecting the blame on the legal gun ownership.
