My family and I were vacationing at the Periyar Tiger Reserve, India, when we heard a commotion outside. We rushed out to see a wild elephant emerge from the forest and walk straight at us. It had gotten separated from its herd and the hotel staff told us it had been roaming around the premises ever since. It was eventually chased off by staff and forest officers beating buckets. We learned that wild elephants are extremely volatile and can kill within minutes. If we had know that earlier, we would have had second thoughts about coming within five meters of this giant animal. It was an experience to remember.
Here's some information about wild elephants:
if agitated, abused or if encountered in the wild, an elephant can be one of the most dangerous creatures in the world. Elephants experience unexpected bouts of rage and are known to be vindictive. In India, hundreds of people are killed by mistreated or rampaging elephants.
