National Geographic published an article on their website about the increased demands on our fresh water supply by the Energy industry. Scientists from the International Energy Agency (IEA) predict that by 2035, water demands for power plants will double. The worst offenders are coal, biofuels and to a lesser degree nukes (because we stopped permitting them decades ago).

The study also concludes that a move to carbon capture, which is what proponents of "clean coal" advocate, will make matters even worse.

Some experts worry that this added demand could threaten food production.

The obvious solution is to ramp up development of clean alternatives and cut energy consumption. This has been my mantra, of sorts, for a long time. Water conservation methods in farming are also suggested by experts.

When will the powers that be start to listen and, more importantly, act?
