    Groundhog Day: Find your shadow!

    More from rosehips

    Racing the Sun

All day long I waited for sunshine to appear outside my house so I could capture my shadow. It never came.

But I drove up to Canada yesterday afternoon after hearing that my favorite music artist was performing at Red Mountain ski resort in British Columbia. That elusive sunshine just might be found.

As I drove north along the Columbia River, long breaks of sunshine appeared on the glistening snow around me. But there was no where to pull over to take a photo!

I could see sunshine ahead but the sun was dropping fast to the West. I didn't think I would find a place in the sun to pull over in time. I had to hurry.

I sped north, racing the sun. When I reached "Marble Country", a christian cultish community, I got my opportunity. Several minutes later, in my old town of Northport, WA, I drove down to the boat launch and snapped photos of the Columbia as you look toward Canada.

Allen Stone is a young sensation who grew up just down the highway from me. He's got the sweetest voice and the most soulful personality. It's an irresistible combination. I had to make the trek.

Because of my photo stops, I got to the show a few minutes late. The place was over capacity and I had to wait almost an hour to get in. But I could hear the music perfectly and could even see the performers from the line outside the door. Once I got inside, I got up on a bench in the back and recorded several of his songs. Man, he rocked the house. No one was unimpressed.

I got to talk to him after the show and I felt like we really connected. He has that way about him. I think he connects with everyone.

I'm looking forward to Spring and to watching Allen Stone's career take off.

    Thanks for reading!
