Teachers' Strike in Acapulco, Mexico Feb. 3, 2013
Members of the National Education Workers Union (Sindicato Nacional de Trabajadores de la Educación, SNTE) staged a protest along the main street, Costera Miguel Aleman in Acapulco, Mexico this morning to demand heightened security, higher pay, and more safety in their schools.
The costera is located on the other side of Acapulco Bay beach where thousands of tourists have come to celebrate Mexican Independence Day.
The strike lasted for almost two hours as teachers walked from the downtown zocolo to the end of the main costera. Tourists, employees, and residents of Acapulco watched from their windows and balconies as teachers chanted and cheered.
