    St. Peter's Basilica

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     ArtieFufkin and his wife were on a month-long adventure through Europe. They began their trip in England and visited Ireland, Germany and France before arriving in Italy. St. Peter's Basilica was the last place they visited before heading back to their hostel. "I remember being struck by the intricacies of the design of such a massive cathedral," he says. "All I could think about was the painstaking attention to detail that had to be paid by hundreds - if not thousands - of builders over the years."

After marveling as long as we were allowed at the incredible perfection of the Sistine Chapel, my wife and I were able to make it over to St. Peter's Basilica, almost as an afterthought, just in time before they closed the doors for the night. After working our way through the inside of the chapel, I stopped to take this shot as the lights came on for the night.

We ended up spending almost as much time taking in this beautiful piece of architecture as we did inside the Sistine Chapel. This was the perfect punctuation to our time in Rome and I'm very thankful to have caught a portion of it with this photo.
