This iReport is part of an assignment:
New Facebook: Love it or leave it? |
New Facebook = More Profit
The one thing the new layout succeeds in doing is creating more space for ads. With so many users protesting the design change, it becomes apparent that there must have been huge monetary incentive for finally switching the layout. Let's face it facebook is now a business, and it's doing very well. Its founder is the youngest person on the Forbes 400 list this year.
So it should come as no surprise that their primary goal is profit. But as facebook users become its customers, shouldn't their opinions and wants be taken more seriously. I have not spoken with a single person who has embraced the new layout. Not one. I know I spend far less time on the site, as do many of my friends.
As the emphasis of the company changes, so should their customer service skills. Though we're not paying a subscription, companies are paying a lot of money to put their ads where we can see them. It just seems like really bad business move. Don't alienate your customers, Mark!
