Catholics: Your views on new pope |
Pope's resignation a selfless act
- sarahbrowngb, CNN iReport producer
I think Pope Benedict's resignation is a selfless act.
There will be many people commenting in the next several days about the resignation of the Pope, but I think the most important point is the resignation was a selfless act, meaning the Pope did not want to stay in power when he is unable to carry out his duties.
I am Catholic, and it is because of the Catholic faith of my family I am living in the United States as the Catholic church helped relocate many of my ancestors. They were part of a Catholic colony in Minnesota in the late 1800s in rural Minnesota, mainly poor Irish Catholics. In Minnesota history, Bishop John Ireland helped establish a farming community I now live in today.
It will be exciting as a Catholic to see who will be selected as a Pope. The Catholic Church is growing in Africa and Latin American, but I think it would be great to see an American as the next pope.
