MY Last on AHS? My Mysterious Girl Friend who sat at the same typewriter after me in summer school .
... before our Freshman year. She'd type notes to me and leave them in the typewriter. I'd type a reply and leave it for her. I got a D- in Typing because I was more interested in this curious girl who kept leaving me notes than in actually learning to type anything. I never did find out who she was. And a guy I didn't fully believe existed actually appeared in real life in my woodshop class. He was a kid that went to school with Jim Brumm and Mike Etchie at Fremont Elementary before they both moved into the "Historic Housing Tract" as so many other famous people did just to go to school with me. Jim used to tell his story, how he arrived as a New Kid at Fremont Elementary (back when there were no middle schools; everything was K-8th). Apparently their teacher asked this New Kid to stand and say his name so everybody would know who he was. When he replied, Dennis Menace, she smiled along with the good humor intended while the class laughed and then asked him to state his name again. He did and everyone laughed again as the teacher became annoyed, silenced the class and tried again, saying, "Ok, you have your fun, now it's time to be serious and tell the class your name. Again he did while she just got madder as he continued to insist that was his real name. Her class still laughing but, less and less until she blew her top and sent him to the Principal's Office. After telling the class to read something while she stepped out to meet with the Principal, she picked up his transfer papers looked down at them and ran out of the room begging his forgiveness and apologizing to him all the way back into the classroom. It was a great story but, I never really believed it until I met him 2 years later in woodshop. -
