    Chinese New Year In Okinawa

Although the Chinese New Year is no longer widely celebrated throughout Okinawa one city has held strongly onto the tradition. Itoman, located in the southern part of Okinawa, was once the main port for trade with China during the time of the Ryukyu Kingdom.

Although the celebration is minimal compared to what it might have been years ago some traditions continue such as flying colorful flags from fishing boats.
