The war through your eyes: Iraq 10 years on

    Threatening Neighbours

When the Bush-led, American forces invaded Iraqi soil in 2003, I was stupified. I thought, surely the world will wake up and question/stop this highly illegal invasion. Unfortunately, this wasn't the case. At the time, I had been a frequent 'chatter' in a political forum on the Golf Channel of all places. I began to have dialogues with others, from various countries, but mostly with Americans. Of course, I began to express my opinions about the invasion and did so, along with many others for several months. As the invasion, I do not call the Iraqi invasion a 'war' as none had been declared actually and it was nothing more than a fiercely illegal invasion of a third party country for no logical, practical or legitimate reason at all, progressed (or regressed as it were), the discussions grew increasingly heated. It finally got to the point where I had to end my participation in the discussions as my life was repeatedly threatened and I was getting worried that one or more of the overly aggressive, American participants who were responsible for the hateful, shameful and criminal threats to me, online, would succeed in determining my name and whereabouts. It was horrifying actually. That my erstwhile friendly neighbours to the south would have such vitriol and anger and hatred for a stranger in Canada, shocked me to the core. That my opinions and views of the illegal struggles in Iraq have now been near wholly vindicated and proven to have been spot on, I am wondering what these perversely misled peoples have gone and what they now think of their former leaders' calamitous exploits? Having been a totally failed exercise in international terrorism, the Iraqi invasion continues to hurt and haunt millions of innocent Iraqiis not to mention the 100,000+ Iraqiis who were killed in this ridiculous action. (Note: American military policy deems irrelevant the counting of victims of its largesse). As a Canadian, I wonder how many Americans now recognize the enormous difference in scale of the threat to human life by one Saddam Hussein and one George Bush? Not even in the same universe. Pity. Really scary neighbour.
