Catholics: Your views on new pope

    Viva Papa Benedict!

I was baptized, raised and educated a Catholic and will be one for the rest of my life. I am quite surprised at the news of Pope Benedict's "resignation". I also heard this is the first since whenever (date). While I accept his reason(s) for doing so, I am curious to know if this has happened int he past and how it was handled.
I personally do not think his resignation will negatively impact the Roman Catholic Church in any way while I trust and remain hopeful that the College of Cardinals will find amongst themselves a most worthy, wise, vigorous and compassionate successor.
I will pray for a most peaceful and restful retirement for His Holiness and like all Catholics, I thank him for giving his life to serve God and mankind.
