    Have you had an abortion?

    The Right Choice for Me

I have always felt very strongly about supporting a woman's right to choose; every woman's situation is different, and she must do what is best for her. I, however, never thought that I would be that woman. I had taken my birth control everyday at the same time for almost 10 years. I was hyper-aware and extraordinarily cautious.

I recently graduated from law school, passed the bar, and moved to DC in hopes of finding my dream job, only to join the ranks of the unemployed. My insurance expired and before I could make an appointment at Planned Parenthood to get more birth control, I found myself pregnant. 27 years old, unmarried, barely making it by doing contract work, and pregnant.

People plan for the future and when they'll have children (or not) in many different ways, and this was not the way I planned on having children. I want to be married, to be financially stable, and ready to give 100% of myself to raising a child. Although I have an amazing and supportive partner whom I plan to marry, all of the pieces weren't in the right place, which is why I had an abortion four months ago. It ended up being a much harder choice than I ever thought it would be, but it was the right and best choice for me.
