What makes the protests in Bangladesh different??

Although there is a growing popularity of Islamic parties across the Muslim world, it seems odd that mass people from all walks of life are protesting against “the largest Islamic party in the country” Jamaat e Islam and demanding the death penalty for its leaders in a predominantly Muslim country like Bangladesh. This may raise a question to the international society that why these people are protesting against these political leaders of Islamic parties. To get the answer of this question we have to look back to our history: history of liberation in 1971.
In 1971 after 26 years of social, cultural and economic mistreatment Bengalis rose against the Pakistani authority and created a country of their own based on equality for all. We became independent but many of us lost our family members, friends in this journey. As we all know about the tragic holocaust by Nazi Germany who butchered 6 million Jews in 6 years, in 1971 the Pakistani military killed 3 million people, raped our mothers and sisters in just nine months. But sad part of the history is that few of us acted as traitors (who are known as Razakar in Bengali) in 1971 and they helped the Pakistani military in leading this genocide
Unfortunately, some of the Razakars (local collaborators) of that time are now the leaders of Jamaat e islami Bangladesh, an Islamic political party which uses religion as their political weapon to mislead mass people. They talk about Islam, a religion of peace, but they convicted heinous crime back in 1971. They misused people’s emotion for religion and till today they are using it to brainwash innocent, uneducated and even few educated people to divide the country, to destroy the unity of the youth who believes in solidarity in religious diversity, to destroy the very foundation upon which Bangladesh (which means the country of Bengali people) was created.
So, when you see millions of people from all across Bangladesh gathering at prajanma chattar also known as generation square and demanding the death penalty for these war criminals, don’t get confused, this is not a political demand, this is the demand of the martyrs family who has waited for so long , this is the demand of the rape victims, this is a demand of mass people The capital punishment is a long overdue for the leaders of jamaat e islam for what they did 41 years ago. Today we all should stand up and demand justice.
