El Matador: Hidden Gem
Hidden by sheer walls of rock and sand along the PCH in Malibu rests a stunning little beach called El Matador. A person driving along enjoying the beautiful California weather would likely miss it. The only marking for its turnoff is a small wooden sign and the parking lot is nestled around a short curve that keeps the entrance well out of sight. The only way down to the beach itself is via a network of staircases, as the area is surrounded by sheer cliff walls. Once down to the sand, however, vacationers are awarded beautiful rock formations, fine sand, and water that seems just a little more blue than everywhere else. The area is a favorite for photographers, and going in the early Summer may even yield a dolphin or two jumping around in the distance! If you are looking for a less commercial and crowded beach, El Matador is certainly worthy of being the big diamond in the rough along the Malibu coastline.
