Oklahoma State University: In Solidarity with Shahbag Movement

It has been 42 years since Bangladesh earned independence from Pakistan in 1971. The cost was huge- 3 million martyrs and 200 thousand women being raped by the Pakistani military and their local collaborators. After remaining unpunished for four decades finally necessary preparations were taken and a tribunal was formed in 2010 and charges were readdressed against the war criminals. Some leading war criminals were arrested, but some of them are still out there. The first verdict was announced on January 13, 2013 against Abul Kalam Azad, one of the top traitors during our liberation war in 1971 and he was sentenced to death, but in absentia. The second verdict was announced on February 4, 2013 sentencing Quader Mollah, who has proven charges of more than 344 murders and countless rapes and loots during the war, for life.
This second verdict came as a shock to the Bangladeshis not only in Bangladesh but also all over the world. The mass people called for a gathering on Friday, February 4, 2013 to a peaceful protest on the street at a center Dhaka city square known as Shahbag. To show our solidarity with the ongoing people’s movement at Shahbag, we the Bangladesh Students at Oklahoma State University organized an event in front of the Edmon Low Library (Central Library of OSU) on Saturday, February 9, 2013. We demand capital punishment for those who committed the heinous crimes during our liberation war and want justice for the families of the victims of 1971. Only then the 42 years old wound of this nation can start healing.
