    "Distinguished Warfare Medal"

    In a move that is sure to be controversial Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta announced today the creation of a new medal to recognize exceptional combat service while not on the battlefield. This medal will rank above the Bronze Star Medal. Drone operators typically operate from US based locations while the drones operate in Afghanistan and other combat zones. Cyber Command warriors based at Fort Meade could also be eligible for the award for thwarting an incoming cyber attack or carrying out a cyber attack on other nations.
