Hundreds Dance in Denver to End Violence Against Women

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     Tiffmoehring photographed a flash mob of women in Denver, Colorado, who came together on February 14 to bring awareness of the global initiative to end violence against women by the organization One Billion Rising. She says the flash mob consisted of dancing that was high energy as well as celebratory. 'The love, gratitude and care that was expressed among strangers was beyond inspirational. Dancers danced with great emotion, and used the dance as tool to reclaim their power, or in honor of others who had been victimized. One of the most powerful hand-made signs that I say just said "for my grandmother,"' she said.
    - Jareen, CNN iReport producer

Snowy, cold weather did not stop several hundred people participating in the One Billion Rising "flash mob" in downtown Denver at Skyline Park on February 14, 2013. While many other metro area residents faced a snowy commute home, this crowd was dancing in a stand to end violence against women across the planet. With Valentine's Day as the event backdrop, there was no shortage of love among the dancers who found strength in each other, community and global solidarity.

The global event, organized by non-profit One Billion Rising, invited one billion women and the people that love them to "walk out, dance, rise up, and demand" an end to violence. According to the organization's website, one billion women, one of every three woman on the planet, will be raped or beaten in her lifetime. Visit www.onebillionrising.org for more information.
