My Meteor Stories
I didn't see the Russian meteor but have seen two spectacular meteors in my life. The first was when I was a kid. Some of my buddies and I were camping overnight in my backyard. That night the sky lit up and we watched a huge fireball cross the sky. It turned night into day. As kids we thought it must've landed close by and we all hopped on our bikes (unbeknown to our sleeping parents) and rode a few streets over looking for it. We read the next day it landed in Utah. We were in Orange County, California.
The second experience happened a few years ago. My wife and I were driving at night from our house in California to our vacation house at the Colorado River in Arizona. It had taken us a few hours to get through all the traffic in the LA basin and were zipping along on I 40 between Barstow and the Cal/Az border. My wife was driving and I was sitting rather bored in the passenger seat. I happened to glance out the window across the dark desert. All of a sudden I saw a beautiful green object streak across the sky. It was beautiful like a green firework. It must've been an iron/nickel meteor since nickel burns green. The photo I used is one I found on the internet. I wish I had a camera handy that night. But what I saw is similar to the photo.
