NANS charges FG over UNIABUJA crunch
The President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Com. Yinka Gbadebo last Thursday appealed to the Federal Government, through the Ministry of Education, to find a lasting solution to the lingering crisis at the University of Abuja to allow prospective graduating students of the university to graduate at the appropriate time. Com. Yinka Gbadebo made the plea in Abuja during the 27th National Inauguration ceremony of the association which held at the Abuja International Conference Centre. The newly elected President, Com. Yinka Gbadebo, who was not happy with the absence of the Education Minister, Prof. Ruqayyatu Rufai at the inauguration ceremony, appealed to her representative to convey the message to her for swift consideration and action by the Federal Government. It will be recalled that the institution was shut in November, last year, following a dispute between the university management and the Ministry of Education over issues relating to the accreditation of some courses in the institution. NANS also called on the Federal Government to implement the recommended 26% budgetary allocation to the education sector as a way of building national capacity for continuous development of the nation.
