Champions of Women's Health
Feb 16, 2013 - Love Make it Count - Planned Parenthood of Hawaii's 8th Annual Gala Dinner & Awards event. More than 300 guests gathered for an evening of cocktails, awards and a silent auction. Planned Parenthood Hawaii posthumously presented the Bette Takahashi Service Award to the late Madelyn Dunham, President Obama's grandmother and member of Planned Parenthood Hawaii Board of Directors in the 1970s. Dr. Maya Soetoro-Ng accepted the award on behalf of her grandmother and family and shared how her grandmother was a true trailblazer. Additionally, Marilyn Lee, former Hawaii State Representative from Mililani, was recognized for her political courage in protecting the rights of women and girls. Governor Abercrombie, Senator Hirono, Senator Schatz and Mayor Caldwell were in attendance. Honorary event Co-Chairs were Dr. Nancie Caraway and Dr. Linda Schatz.
