    Unite Against Poaching

Two Unite Against Poaching USA leaders, Scott Fry and Carol Parish met with the South African Leaders for a 3 day summit in Johannesburg. "We were on a Save the Rhino mission to Kruger National Park. Last year over 600 Rhinos were poached. The price on their head a half million dollars for 7 kilos of horn. Rhino horn is more precious than gold or cocaine. The leading trafficker is Vietnamese poachers. They believe the horn will cure cancer. Kruger Park has the largest population of rhino in S Africa". Most of the poachers sneak across the Mozambique border at dusk, kill the rhino and are back across the border within hours. Some poachers will stay hidden for weeks as they are hardened militia after the promise of a large payoff. S. Africa is now utilizing UAVs to combat highly sophisticated militia who are mainly responsible for most of the poaching. They help but are not the entire solution. I spent several months there doing research on this topic. Certainly, the US needs to become more active and aware of whats happening there as it is an atrocity against a creature that is a International Icon. Rhinos no longer exist in Vietnam. The last one was poached in 2010.
