HulhuMale Court - Kangaroo court?
A protest is going on in Male, the capital of Maldives calling “HulhuMale Court” (the court prosecuting the first democratic president, Mr. Mohamed Nasheed) an unconstitutional court and therefore should be abolished. The three judges over seeing Nasheed’s case are hardcore loyalists of former president Maumoon and his allies, specially selected to bring a guilty verdict.
The courts system is so much politicized that even the even the people have lost confidence in the Supreme Court as some of its proceedings are questionable.
How can Nasheed get a fair trial while his opponents are sitting on the bench of Judicial Service Commission which oversees and controls the Courts? The Commissioner of Police, the Home Minister and the Defense Minister, all these people are Mr. Nasheed’s rivals and so it is called a politically motivated trial.
