Basketball on donkeys!
On Monday, Palmyra Area High School held its third annual donkey basketball game, a variation on standard basketball dating back to the 1930s in which the players ride on donkeys. (The practice, popular in rural communities, has drawn criticism from animal-welfare groups; the groups that supply the donkeys insist the events are well supervised and the animals cared for.)
vinod0922, whose step-daughter attends the school, was in the crowd on Monday night and sent this video of the girls basketball team playing against the teachers. The teachers won. Social studies teacher John Karavage told CNN the event raised $4,600 and the students have a goal to raise $46,000 by the end of the week. 'It really shows the good side of our teens rather than what you normally see on the news,' Karavage said. 'It's one of the coolest community-wide high school things I've ever been part of.'
