    Vegetarian Pizza


    This vegetarian pizza is so simple to make and so quick to do. In this recipe, flour tortilla is spread with tomato sauce and sprinkled with cheese and basil leaves to make a low fat and low calorie snack or light meal. Inspired by the classic Italian favorite, pizza Margherita, which is a simple pizza recipe topped with tomatoes, basil, mozzarella, olive oil, and salt. This low-fat pizza recipe is made with flour tortillas instead of regular pizza dough giving it a Mexican twist. It is also cooked in a pan on the stovetop instead of the oven, and is very fast and convenient to prepare, especially ideal for those with a busy modern lifestyle.


    Flour tortillas can be bought in the grocery already packed or freshly made in Mexican restaurants. They are a type of thin flatbread made from finely ground flour and typically unleavened. Tortilla is a Spanish word that means “small cake.” In the United States, flour tortilla is commonly used to make burritos. Its flat and thin material makes it a quick and easy readymade pizza crust. Because of its convenience and simplicity, it also makes the ideal party food. You can dress up this pizza recipe and add your favorite toppings like bell peppers, mushrooms, and pepperoni. But since the tortilla is thin, it can only hold light ingredients and should not be overloaded or it might break.


    Tortillas can range in size from 6 centimeter or 2.4 inches to about 30 centimeters or 12 inches so you can choose how large a pizza you want to create with it. Make sure that the skillet you are using is large enough to accommodate the entire circumference of the flour tortilla. If not, you can also use a baking pan and melt the cheese in the oven, baking or heating the pizza just until the toppings heat up. Pair it up with any of these vegetable soup recipes


    1 base of flour tortillas
    ½ cup tomato sauce
    Few fresh basil leaves


    In a pan put tortilla and top it up with tomato sauce, grated cheese, and freshly chopped basil leaves. Allow it to cook on low flame.


    Let the cheese melt and remove it from the heat. Once the cheese melts transfer it on the serving dish and serve hot.
