Tourists held hostage in Cameroon
The president confirmed the hostage takers as a “known terrorist group based in Nigeria”. The seven tourists are reportedly all part of the same family and that number includes four children. They have most probably been taken back across the border to northern Nigeria.
President Hollande mentioned that terrorist group Boko Haram are known to operate in that area and that “everything possible” was being done to secure their release. In the meanwhile, Hollande warned other French nationals to avoid “exposing themselves” in the area.
The family had allegedly been returning from a trip to the Waza National Park when men on motorcycles attacked their convoy and initiated the kidnapping, according to Cameroonian officials.
The incidents comes on the back of another kidnapping of French nationals; eight people are already being held by Islamist groups in the country, with terrorist group Ansaru taking responsibility.
