Snow storm brings life to a halt

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     SamIngle told me, ' A friend was stuck attempted to go get some food and stated there were tons of cars stuck on the roads. There were also many cars pulled up on the sides of highway 435 and Interstate I-35. many of the local roads have been closed. In the business district of the town, many businesses are closing and people are checking into nearby hotels to stay the night.'

So it all started with the weather radio going off at work on Tuesday 02/19/2013. National weather center had issued a winter weather advisory with heavy snow and sleet in the area starting around midnight on Wednesday. ‘Thank God I am off next two days’ I told myself and kind of rubbed it into some of my colleagues because they had to work. My roommate AJ and I got some food supplies in preparation of the storm. The Hy Vee by our apartment was packed with people. I have not seen this many people in a store since holidays. It took us ten minutes to gather our groceries and thirty minutes to get through the checkout lane.
After getting home, I was bunkered down for some snow. Then I heard that storm was not going to hit us until 0200 hrs. Later, it changed to 0400 to 0600 hrs on Thursday morning. For some insane reason and the continuous change in eta of storm had me convinced that we may not get anything so I went to bed thinking nothing will happen.
Boy, was I wrong. I woke up this morning and opened the garage door to get some out of my car and guess what…it was nothing but snow all around. My car was buried in the snow. It was cold, windy and wet. I could not conjure enough courage to walk to my car so I closed the garage door and came back inside. After putting some winter gear on, I stepped out in the snow and tested the panoramic function of my Nexus 4 cell phone camera. Not bad I would say. I have uploaded some of the pictures and a video of the storm. I hope everyone is safe and war. AND PLEASE DO NOT TRY TO DRIVE IN THIS WEATHER…
    Good Day.
