    The Oscar's accident.

Living in a rather isolated distant place safety is my concern, in particular at night.
A loaded shotgun is next to the bed. When during the night I hear any steps or noise in the house
the first thing I do is to see if my wife is still in the bed. If she is not I will not get the gun and fire indiscriminately towards the course of noise. I may assume that Oscar was in the same bed with his girlfriend, at a very short distance indeed.
When some short of noise alerted him he did not notice that she was not on the bed, which meant that she was somewhere in the house and most probably in the bathroom?
An other point that I can not understood is : Why the victim locked the door when she entered the bathroom. Is it usual?
