This iReport is part of an assignment:
Bitter pill: The cost of health care in the U.S. |
The cost of PAH
- rachel8, CNN iReport producer
2012 was a rather bad year, speaking on healthcare costs. I was sidelined with an "unknown" ailment that took the doctors nearly 9 months to diagnose. During those months I was terminated from my position as a warehouse manager for an camping/outdoor food company, and spent more time being poked and prodded than I would like to admit. Now with a diagnosis in hand and on medication that controls and slows the progression of the disease, the real cost is noticed. Without insurance the monthly cost is a little over $23,000. fortunately PH organizations and the pharmaceutical companies have programs set up to assist uninsured and underinsured patients.
Still though, $23,000 a month for medication is a bitter pill to swallow.
