What's Next For Kim Nain for 2013
By: Kimeshia Williamson.
23 year old singer/song writer Kim Nain has been getting some recognition locally as well as in a few other Caribbean countries for songs like “L.O.V.E” on the empress rhythm and her latest “Moved On” released on November, 2012 that has been picked up by distribution giants ITunes. The Jamaican born beauty has been doing music professionally for the last 6-7 years, and strongly believes that 2013 is the year for her.
The Songstress has teamed up with a new production company for 2013 called Gorgon Entertainment Group which is operated out of Kingston. She defines the movement as the stepping stone for her progress in 2013 “well the first thing I need to do was to find persons who were interested in working with me as I’m interested in working with them and I have done that” expressed the singer “ now the next step is to work on materials, which we working on right now whilst the team itself is working in the business aspect of getting me out there whether its TV, radio, interviews, tours etc. all that is being worked on” she expressed with a sound, positive note.
“There have been set backs” noted the singer dolefully “one of the biggest obstacles I face is the biases from some producers, as we know the music industry in Jamaica is a male dominated industry. Many producers tend not to take female artists seriously.” However she did not hesitate to set the record straight “not all producers, as that would have been unfair, because I have worked with a few that have helped me and I haven’t had any bad encounter with” she vibrantly expresses “moreover females have the burden of ensuring they have the right image. With a male most people expect a Rasta or t-shirts and jeans but with females it takes so much more. A lot more effort has to be put in it.”
Not only is the songstress a singer/ songwriter but entrepreneur can be added to the list. Miss Nain started her booking agency called Ultimate Potential (UP), officially in December 2012 “I have always wanted my own business, so why not do something closely related to my field” she declared. “I have 3 main clients thus far; I do bookings for Dj Steam of New York Klique radio, Paul Michael of Rhode Island and Miss Blease from Belize” proclaimed the songbird “even though the agency is pretty young thus far I have booked a show for Miss Blease in Antigua that went really well” she announced excitedly.
A law student of the University of Technology where Kim is perusing her bachelor’s degree, she consider herself an all-rounder “I’m not conservative or too wild, I would say I’m in between” she blurted with a bodacious grin “I’m versatile, I cross the border, I mean I study science I’m perusing law and I’m an artist so you must know that I have that kind of wide interest” she said.
When asked what’s next for 2013? She blurted “an outbreak” “a Buss” in between episodes of laughter. “I have been doing this a while now and I have gotten some amount of publicity but not enough to make Kim Nain a household name, so we’re fixing that”. Noted miss Nain I’m now working on stuff with this new team, we looking to push more stuff Europe side etc., more videos, and more music, straight up reggae. I mean I’m free to play around with other stuff but reggae is the focal point”. She declared “We trying to get the reggae market, that’s the target audience, we have new materials that should be released by this time next week”.
Kim Nain has worked with a few big names in the industry like Tiffa on one of Jamaica’s biggest reggae show Sumfest in 2011, as well as she has worked with the legendary reggae artist Bob Marley’s son Kymani Marley on a track called “Mary Jane” that has yet to be released she has also worked with Natel and Wayne Marshall on commercials.
The witty singer says she’s on a roll, when asked what message you would love to send to the fans, Jamaicans and the world at large, she said “I am bringing back reggae” fiercely, followed by another episode of snickers “that’s probably to the point. In my own way, in my own version I don’t think there is no one, no artist out there that has my sound” she continued to say “it’s just the way I express myself through my sound, through my lyrics.”
“L.O.V.E” was released on under the River Nile productions and “Moved On” was released by Dale Virgo from G-Jam under Dizzle records. Both songs are available for downloads “Moved On” is available on ITunes and “L.O.V.E.” is available on her sound cloud soundcloud.com/kimnain. “Everyone can also view my videos, previous work done, etc. etc. on my social sites for fb, its faceboo.com/kimnain also my YouTube page at Youtube.com/kimnain and feel free to tweet me at twitter.com/kimnain” she informed.
