Right There In Front Of You

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     NateHartmann says he was inspired by the sight of a homeless man playing with a Rubik's Cube. 'He was laying there on the sidewalk, propped up by his folded sleeping bag, and he fumbled with his own Rubik's Cube. I passed by and did a double take. The moment seemed too ironic and too symbolic to pass up so I doubled back and took that picture. It stuck with me over the next few weeks and I started to imagine the Rubik's Cube as a connection to the political struggles that we've all been dealing with lately--from the White House to the Capitol, from the streets to our own backyards. Conveniently, I had a Rubik's Cube of my own, a camera, and plenty of free time, so I went out and played with it on the National Mall. I figured fixing it in front of the Capitol could bring some sort of message or comedy to everyone. A picture to make people think.'
