Cardinal Dolan Covers up Gay Priests, Should he become Pope?
While Cardinal Roger Mahony of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles covered up priests who were sexually abusive, Cardinal Dolan of New York on the other hand, has being attacking gay marriage, at the same time covering up his own gay priests.
Fr. Bernard Murphy CFR, a member of the Community of the Franciscan Friars of Renewal, and once a superior of the Franciscans was entrusted to train descending men for the priesthood. Father Murphy disappointed the discerning candidate by having romantic homosexual intimacy with him. The candidate ended his priesthood discernment angry and reported to Cardinal Dolan. Dolan covers this up and acts as if nothing happened. If we entrust our young men to be trained priests, even though they are young adults, is this what we should expect from Cardinal Dolan’s clergy?
Rev. James Woods of St. Margaret of Scotland Church, 81College Road, Selden, NY 11784 openly says “my boyfriend Peter was the first one to acknowledge my gay feelings.” Dolan knows about it and covers up. As of now father James is still pastor of the Church. Why should the Cardinal of New York speak against gays at the same time cover up his own gay priests? Cardinal Mahony covered up sexually abusive priests, Cardinal Dolan covers up Gay priests.
Dolan also covered up Fr. Michael O’Leary. A witness from his Church spoke about father Michael saying he is, “a member of the Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter, allegedly furnished alcohol to two individuals, including an underage young adult and a minor.” Why is Cardinal Dolan not making sure that justice is rendered to these two individuals? Why has Dolan failed to meet these individuals and listen to their stories? Why is Cardinal Dolan covering up staff like this? Should he really become Pope?
