Mix old fashioned values with new media - to make the new face of Hispanic Leadership
Born and raised in South Los Angeles, Emanuel Pleitez is the son of Mexican and Salvadoran immigrants. He and his sister were raised by a smart, forward thinking woman.The Hispanic community is creating an entirely new crop of well educated, smart and polished leaders. One of them is running for Mayor of Los Angeles. He refers to himself as a born and bred "Angelino".
Even as a teenager at Woodrow Wilson High School in Sereno, he was destined for success. He was elected senior class president, earned 19 varsity letters and numerous scholarships.
Pleitez worked his way right to Stamford University where he got involved the Hispanic Business Association, the ASSU Student Government and Alpha Kappa Psi, a professional business fraternity.
uring his time at Stanford, Pleitez was involved in many student groups, including the Hispanic Undergraduate Business Association, ASSU student government, and Alpha Kappa Psi, a professional business fraternity. He also took time off from school to work in the political field; he served as a field organizer on John Kerry's presidential campaign, as well as the Special Assistant to then councilman Antonio Villaraigosa during the councilman’s 2005 mayoral race.
While at Stanford, Pleitez was awarded the Jerry I. Porras Visionary Leadership Award and the Cecilia and Tony Burciaga Community Development award. He graduated from Stanford with a B.A. in Urban Studies in 2006.
On leaving college he worked at Goldman Sachs, go heavily involved in politics when selected as a member of Obama's transition team, ran for Congress and got to try his hand at another series of successful projects.
Like many other successful professionals, he too did his stint at McKinsey and Company, joining the firm's Los Angeles Office. In 2012, he joined SPOKEO as their Chief Strategy Officer.
In July of 2012, Pleitez announced his mayoral candidacy stating he wants to represent the voices asking for integrity, hard work and fair representation.
Emanuel and his wife Rebecca have been married since 2011. Armed with a serious technology background, Pleitez represents "the new" candidate that uses old fashioned values and high tech new media tools.
