Bitter pill: The cost of health care in the U.S.

    $2825 for amoxicicillin prescription

My wife had to visit emergency room with abscessed cat bite in a finger. Had to, because her regular doctor refused to treat it and sent he to emergency room. She paid $300 admission fee, then an x-ray was wheeled in for the finger, then she saw a physician for less than five minutes. The doctor prescribed amoxi and referred her to a hand surgeon for follow-up care. Then came the bills. $680 from the doctor's office, $50 to the radiologist for the X-ray evaluation, $1795 from the hospital, which included $280 for the x-ray. So in total, $2,825 for an antibiotic prescription.
