    My Oscar Pistorius moment!

I have a vivid memory of this night even though It was over a decade ago. My wife, having gone to the bathroom in the middle of the night, fainted. I was on the edge of sleep, but shot to full awakeness with the noise as she fell. Instantly I thought it was an intruder. I leaped up and started rushing towards the bathroom. For some reason still unknown to me to this day, the noise I made was some sort of whaling. I think I was trying to summon courage for hand to hand combat. My wife who was in a lot of pain from the fall was puzzled to hear my crazy "whoo... whoo... whooing!" as I pounced through the door. She suffered no lasing injury from the fall. Just a bad headache for the night and the next day and a slightly sore arm. For years she loved to make fun of that night. when, as she puts it, I was pretending to be a ghost and scare away the non existent intruder.

While many when hearing the Oscar Pistorius story find it not believable, I have my own past events to reflect on. From my experience I remember not checking the bed for my wife and being instantly fixated on the bathroom and blinded with singular focus that I was going to be in a fight. I don't own a gun, never have, so that was not an issue for us. If his story is what actually happened I can believe at least part of it having lived through a similar experience. His descending into a state of utter panic consumed with a singular focus to deal with a would be intruder, I get. Pulling the trigger and shooting a believed to be intruder without seeing the person first escapes me. I would guess the panic and fear could have taken over. I would like to think that that is something I would not have been able to do.
I am putting this out there NOT because I think that what he said is what happened, but, because of my own experience, think that it is at least more plausible than many would believe.
