UK Video Game Chart: Metal Gear Rising guns down Aliens: Colonial Marines

UK Video Game Chart: Crysis 3 beats Metal Gear Rising to No.1 spot guns down Aliens: Colonial Marines

Aliens: Colonial Marines sales drop 84 per cent week on week.

Crytek's Crysis 3 fights off strong competition from Konami's Metal Gear Rising: Revengenace to claim the UK video game chart No.1 spot, reports Chart Track.

5,500 units separate Crysis 3 and Metal Gear Rising, with the former benefiting from also being available on PC. Crysis 3 saw 57 per cent of sales on Xbox 360, whilst Metal Gear Rising performed best on PS3 with 61 per cent of sales.

It's not all rosy for the two new releases, with neither able to match the week one totals of Aliens: Colonial Marines and Dead Space 3, which hold the highest two opening week totals of 2013 so far.

Aliens: Colonial Marines is suffering from all the bad press, taking a huge 84 per cent drop in  sales week on week, seeing it fall to No.5. FIFA 13 holds at No3, Black  Ops 2 sticks at No.4 and Dead Space 3 is down to No.3, itself with a 54 per cent drop.

EA's Crysis 3 takes the top spot in this week's UK all formats chart, ahead of Konami's Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, which makes its debut at No.2.

According  to sales monitor GfK Chart-Track there's a gap of 5,500 sales between  Metal Gear Rising and Crysis 3, with the latter gaining the edge thanks  to a PC release.

The shooter performed strongest on the Xbox 360, with 57% of sales on Microsoft's console. Meanwhile the PS3 proved the be the platform of choice for Metal Gear Rising with 61% of sales of total sales.

'FIFA 13' continues to be a presence in top ten at No.3, as does Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, which holds on to the No.4 spot.

Dead  Space 3 drops to No.6, but maintains its lead on Far Cry 3 and Need for  Speed Most Wanted, which are at No.7 and No.8 respectively. Rounding  off the top ten are Assassin's Creed 3 at No.9 and Square's Hitman  Absolution at No.10.

i anticipated Crysis 3 would top the chart, but with no public data on  sales it's impossible to tell how successful it and Metal Gear have  been. Aliens, however, looks set to fast track itself to the bargain  bin.

With nothing new until Tomb Raider on March 5 expect a slow week of sales, with little change in next update
