    Chiang Mai Celebrates Makha Bucha

    The community of Chiang Mai celebrated the Buddhist holiday of Mahka Bucha (Mon, 25 Feb 13).

    Makha Bucha Day honors Buddha and his teachings.

    In the evening, temples in Chiang Mai held candlelight processions, "wian tian," with monks and Thais holding flowers, incense and lighted candles as they marched around phra ubosot (holy prayer hall).

    Lighting candles and giving alms is a popular custom.
