This iReport is part of an assignment:
Bitter pill: The cost of health care in the U.S. |
Uncomplicated lower urinary tract infection.
In February 2013, I started receiving all the bills. Total cost -- $2515.94. Health Alliance insurance didn't cover any of it due to a high deductible. It's laughable.... I just graduated from college and I work in a factory. There is no way that I could pay.... even though everything is due on March 8.
I never asked for any "lab tests" to be done. I don't believe I ever even saw the doctor that I was billed for.
So what was I billed for?
EMERGENCY DEPT VISIT..... $622.00
EMERGENCY ROOM..... $1074.70
PHARMACY..... $15.34
LAB/BACT MICRO..... $164.30
LAB/BACT MICRO..... $166.60
LAB/BACT MICRO..... $187.30
LAB/UROLOGY..... $121.40
LAB/UROLOGY..... $164.30
I don't know what to do. I don't know how to pay. I worked so, SO hard to make that money. It's more than I make in a month..... and it's gone.... after a 10 minute visit at Provena.
I am very afraid, both for my mother who is going blind, and for myself. I have no idea why things are this expensive. I don't know how they think we could even begin to pay for all of this............ I am so afraid.
