My husband and I signed up in December 2010 to take a trip to Egypt, then the Revolution happened in February of 2011. Our tour was not cancelled and instead of a group of 10-15 there was only 4 of us. We paid extra for the discovery channel tour through g adventures. Because of this our guide had a masters in egyptology. When we arrived in Luxor I told our guide that we wanted to do a balloon ride over Luxor. He said ok and that he would arrange it. It was about $120 per person for about a 45 minute ride. He told us not to make arrangements with anyone else because he knew the "1" good company that was still safe and still had insurance. Our ride was great, but the same day there was some type of crash landing, but no one was seriously hurt. The recent accident in Luxor that killed 19 people reminded me how unregulated the hot balloons in Egypt are.
