I was on the very same air balloon flight over Luxor last August (2012) with my 7 year old son and my 14 year old nephew and was saddened to hear about the most recent tragedy. We shared our balloon ride with fellow passengers from the Nile Cruise we were on and had a beautiful experience. I am still friendly with some of the people we met on this trip who were on the balloon ride with us and we immediately reached out to each other through Facebook to reminisce and share our sadness for those families who lost a loved-one, especially since for us it was such a beautiful experience that now, I’m afraid is marred with sadness. I am sharing a photo of a full balloon to demonstrate the size and scale of the basket, which for me seemed much bigger than I had expected. They are quite large fitting up to 20 people comfortably (divided into quarters with 4-5 people in each quarter). In fact, when I first approached the site in the pre-dawn hours, it struck me how large they were. On this ride, we saw the sun rise above the Valley of the Kings which was spectacular! I was also especially sad to learn that the balloon may have been in rainbow colors which is the balloon most prominently featured in my photos, which flew near our blue balloon for the duration of the flight.
