This story - run in the San Diego Reader in 2010 - details the battle of a local father and daughter against gratuitous hospital overbilling. With the help of a medical bill evaluation service and not a few phone calls, Phil and his uninsured daughter, Mary, reduced her to $17,000, an astounding 6.8 percent of the original bill. This story serves as a guide to avoid beat overbilling and get educated on the laws that work in favor patients. Phil, the father, is in touch with lawyers Dagmar Hale, who is preparing a class action lawsuit against Sharp - one of the major offenders in this story.
