Chhena Jalebi
Chhena Jalebi is shaped like common jalebi, but is made from cottage cheese.
Ingredients:
8 oz. Cottage cheese or Paneer
5 oz. white all purpose flour or Maida
10 tablespoons sugar
1/2 teaspoon: Baking Powder
1 tablespoon clarified butter or Ghee
1 teaspoon Rosewater
16 tablespoons vegetable oil for frying
Preparation Instructions
In a bowl, mix the cottage cheese, flour, baking powder and ghee to make a smooth paste.
Set aside for 1-2 hours. Mix thoroughly.
Make thin, long rope-like strings from the dough and roll it up like a jalebis.
To make the sugar syrup, add the to 1 1/4 cups of water. Bring it to boil, stirring constnatly.
Keep stirring and simmer for about 20 minutes or until the desired consistency is reached. Turn off the heat and set aside.
In a deep pan, heat the oil. Fry the rolled up chhena jalebis until they are slightly golden. Drain, then transfer into the sugar syrup.
Serve warm
