    Bubble Up Pizza

Flaky and buttery, buttermilk biscuits are not only great for breakfast with gravy or jam it also makes delicious pizza. In this home cooking recipe for bubble up pizza, buttermilk biscuits are crushed and mixed with spaghetti sauce and cheese and topped with garlic, onions, mushrooms, and olives. As it bakes in the oven, it “bubbles up” and makes a delicious snack or satisfying meal that is light as air and full of wonderful flavors.

This is an inexpensive and fun alternative to the usual pizza recipe. It’s also a great recipe to use up extra biscuits lying around. Buy fresh buttermilk biscuits in your bakery or the grocery or make one at home to make this extraordinarily delicious pizza recipe. You can also make this in a casserole dish instead of a pizza pan if you want something thicker. This is not a low carb meal, however, and not exactly ideal for those who are on a diet. It makes a delicious and fun snack for kids and adults and even a sumptuous party treat.

Store-bought biscuits simply do not compare to homemade buttermilk biscuits and it isn’t that difficult to make and requires simple ingredients that are probably already in your pantry. All you need is flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, unsalted butter, and chilled buttermilk. If you don’t have buttermilk, you can easily make one at home by combining one tablespoon of lemon juice or white vinegar to every cup of milk and waiting until the mixture curdles. The resulting solution is what you call buttermilk. Basically, the dry ingredients are mixed together and the butter is folded in gradually to make a coarse meal. The buttermilk is added last and the dough is gently kneaded around six times. They are then shaped into biscuits, placed in the baking sheet, baked in a 425 degree F oven for about 12 to 15 minutes or until nice and golden brown.

    Ingredients

    about 9 oz. buttermilk biscuits
    1 1/2 cups spaghetti sauce
    3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
    1 clove garlic, minced
    1 small onion, chopped fine
1/5 to 2 oz. mushrooms, chopped
    4 olives

Crush the biscuits and mix with the sauce and shredded cheese. Mix well.

Spread this mixture in a pizza pan. Sprinkle the garlic, onion, mushrooms and olives.

Bake for about 30 minutes in a 350 degrees F. preheated oven.
