    Hot in Florida

Today Barack Obama honored his committment to the people of Florida, the people of USA.  If anyone knows what Florida is like in September, we are still in what one would consider summertime.  However, Floridans especially dedicated Obama supporters were beyond brave by standing in the Florida sun for over 3 or 4 hours.  We, my husband and I, stood next next to a diversity of people as we slowly moved up the line, high school girls, a young couple of Puerta Rican and African American heritage, a caucasian couple with their year old baby, a older, retired caucasian woman. I mention this to show the rainbow of people that together have found their proverbially pot of gold in Barack Obama. The hawkers of shirts, pins and towels moved raucously up and down the line.  A non-partisan young man who was signing up new registered voters was so enthusiastic as to the number of voters he was able to help.  Not one person was impolite or as we say in the south "ugly."  We did have one personwalking up and down with her sign who supported the other candidate. After a more than a mile walk, all 11 or 12 thousand finally got to our destination.   Fortunate to end up in the bleachers behind the podium. we also met up with a friend we hadn't seen in over a year. After the obligatory speakers at the podium, the cheerleading done by volunteers and participants, we were rewarded with Barack Obama.  He grabbed our attention and kept it in spite of the insufficient sound system.  His demeanor and style was that of man in control, one who could reassure this middle class crowd that he wouldn't relinquish all economic power to those who were responsible for the problems we face.  He addressed the issues that concern us - taxes, healthcare, foreign affairs and the economy.  Yes, we had heard some of it before, but it was all fresh because we were with him. While we stood behind him and cheered, my friend, Leigh Clifton, a photojournalist for two local papers took this picture posted with my ireport.  When he was done, the sentiment among those leaving was one of hope for now and the future.  So as I write this, I am tired, a little sunburned but more hopeful than I was yesterday before seeing with my own eyes the man I know should be president, Barack Obama.
