EHINOME IKHALIA DETERMINED TO ENSURE STUDENTS' SATISFACTION IN UEL

am EHINOME IKHALIA; a student of the great University of East London studying Information Technology on a master’s level and vying for Vice President (ACE and RDBS) in the next UEL students’ union election, March 2013.

Currently, I am the post graduates’ taught student officer and this position has given me the adequate understanding of the inner workings and system of our great university. I have also achieved excellent awareness on the trending challenges our beloved and resilient student’s go through on a weekly basis, which I am most prepared solve.

    The challenges:

“When a student enrolls for a course of study in an institution, the man that determines whether he succeeds or fails is the person standing at the front of the class” Barrack Obama 2012. In a university of more than 25, 000 potential student geniuses and a 24 hour library system spread across 3 campuses, there shouldn’t be any below par academic performance.

Secondly, considering the number of students that voted in the last elections, practically less than 1000, there arise a torrid need for more student awareness and involvement in the union.

I believe the greatest key in bringing out the best in people is incentives. Many students in our great university make the most of efforts in research and technology, but get little notice and as a result are less induced for achievement. My fellow students, I know the problems and with the right tools we can fix it.

    The Solution:

    1. Provide a platform for better communication and understanding between students and lecturers

    2. Create mechanisms for stronger social integration e.g. semester award nights.

    3. Follow up students’ academic input, by developing serious forums.
