First Spanish-Language Atheist Billboard in American History
According to David Silverman, President of American Atheists, today, Monday, March 4, 2013, will mark the launch of the first spanish-language atheist billboard in American History (as far as we know). The billboard goes up in Austin, Texas.
The intent is clear - across our nation, there is a rise of secularism among all ethnicities, including the Hispanic community, but there are still stigmas placed on outed atheism. American Atheists hopes the Hispanic atheists of Texas will come to hear such speakers as Hector Avalos, Indra Zuno, and David Tomayo.
We will have some spanish books and literature available, but more importantly we will provide a way for hispanic atheists to meet each other learn from each other, and most importantly, leave the convention assured that they are not alone in their community. Hispanic atheists are plentiful and proud, but they need to reach critical mass inside their communities to achieve the normalcy they deserve. The Ameican Atheists 50th Anniversary Celebration and Convention is reaching out to them with this in mind.
